AWKA UNITED AIM HIGH

Following their upset of Federation Cup defending champions Heartland on
Wednesday, Akwa United striker Ada Stephen is convinced they have eliminated
the biggest threat to their ambition of lifting the trophy.
Stephen told supersport.com that they deserve nothing but the cup after
knocking out top premier league sides, Enugu Rangers and Heartland to reach the semifinals.
He insists their semifinal opponents Warri Wolves are next on the firing line.
"I do not see any other obstacle on our way to winning the cup as we have beaten the major
threats to our ambitions this past week," an elated Stephen told supersport.com.
"They don't come any better than Rangers and Heartland in Nigerian football and we outfought
and outplayed both of them.
"Heartland were boasting before the game, but we knew we could beat them.
"They showed class in the opening stages and deserved their lead, but we came back strongly
in the second half and they barely survived our onslaught.
"The lads can't wait for the semifinals. We are ready to send Warri Wolves packing."
When reminded that Wolves beat one of the favourites, Kano Pillars 3-0 to qualify and that the
Seasiders have their national team players back in the side, Stephen told supersport.com: "We
have full confidence in our own ability, and that has been our sole motivation.
"We also have Ezekiel Mba in the Super Eagles and he was fantastic against Heartland.
"There are many others who would do well in the national team if given a chance, so it doesn't
bother us that their national team players are back.
"With or without them, we are confident of victory. We know Wolves very well and we know we
can beat them."
Akwa United are yet to win any major silverware in their 17 years of existence.
