MORECAMBE 0- NEWCASTLE 2

There may not be much harmony around Newcastle United at the moment but a little brotherly love saw Alan Pardew’s side through to a third round meeting with Leeds United.
Newcastle’s old man Shola Ameobi and his considerably younger brother Sammy both scored in a game for the first time to end League Two Morecambe’s hopes of pulling off a shock.

A much-changed Newcastle team, with eight new faces from the weekend, had to survive a number of scares.
Newcastle needed two first-half goal-line clearances from Dan Gosling and two vital saves from stand-in keeper Rob Elliot to preserve a clean sheet. Eventually it was the Ameobi brothers who saw off Morecambe.
Pardew said: ‘Shola made a difference when he came on. He looks the best I have seen him this season and the Nigeria selection has given him a boost, I can see it in his eyes. He was terrific in the second half. Sammy put in a good display defensively and offensively. We have never doubted his talent and he put it all together. He was the difference between the two teams.’
Shola, 31, broke the deadlock seven minutes from the end. He had already wasted his side’s best chance with a wild finish into Newcastle’s frustrated fans just four minutes after his arrival as a  second-half substitute for Haris Vuckic.
