MAN UNITED STILL HOPEFUL ON BAINES ARRIVAL

Manchester United manager David Moyes refuses to give up in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines - but they may have to pay over £20million for the England full-back.
United will have to pay a premium - not only because of the player’s undoubted quality - but also because Baines’ former club Wigan will receive a percentage of the transfer, which I understand will see the Latics scoop in excess of 15% of any profit Everton make from the deal. He was signed for £6million in 2007.

It would mean a double deal worth around £47million for Everton pair Baines and Marouane Fellaini. United are ‘extremely confident’ of landing the Belgian, who will submit an official transfer request to force through a move if necessary.
Wigan are also expecting the move to go through - their understanding from Everton last week was to only expect a move for James McCarthy if a deal for Fellaini was in place.
Dave Whelan is playing hard-ball and rejected an opening bid worth £7million plus £3.5million in add-ons - he wants over £15million but Roberto Martinez’s relationship with the club remains strong and they should compromise on a deal worth around £12.5million.

Be wary of the ex-factor! The business of United, Everton and Wigan is inextricably linked to one another - should the proposed moves go through, Wigan will also secure a loan deal for United midfielder Nick Powell.
