TAHITI STRIKER GIVEN TRIAL AT FC LORIENT

Tahiti international Steevy Chong Hue could be set for a move to Europe after being handed a trial by Ligue 1 side FC Lorient.
The 23-year-old, who played a prominent role in the island nation's recent FIFA Confederations Cup campaign, currently plies his trade with AS Dragon in his homeland.
But he has now been put forward for a trial in France by Tahiti's most successful footballing export, retired former Lorient forward Marama Vahirua.
However, Vahirua, who also enjoyed stints with Nice, Nancy and Monaco before ending his playing career after recently featuring at the Confederations Cup, admits Chong Hue has a long way to go yet.
"I had already spoken to him at the time of the Confederations Cup to tell him that I had noticed Steevy, that I think he has the larger qualities of a professional even if he is still missing some of the basics," he told the FIFA official website.
"I’ve explained to him that in a few months he could become a complete pro, a pro with a big future despite his age. He’s going to train with Lorient and that’s how (Lorient manager Christian) Gourcuff can see if he has the level or not."
Meanwhile, Chong Hue expressed gratitude to Vahirua for his recommendation, and insisted he will make the most of the opportunity.
"It is all thanks to Marama and his contacts that I have the opportunity to do this," he said. "After the Confederations Cup I hoped that I would have a chance like this and now it’s up to me to go right to the end.
"I’m not going just to say I’ve gone and that’s it. I want to succeed. Being separated from my family is not a handicap for me. I’ve waited for this opportunity and I’m ready to go right to the end."
