DE BOER WARY OF BALOTELLI THREAT

Ajax boss Frank de Boer has identified striker Mario Balotelli as Milan's biggest threat ahead of the sides' UEFA Champions League encounter.
Between them, the two clubs have won Europe's premier club competition on 11 occasions and they meet at the Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday.
De Boer, whose men were beaten 4-0 by Barcelona in their opening game, feels that the Italian striker could make all the difference for the Milan.
Balotelli has three goals in four Serie A games this season and the former Netherlands international likened him to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
"Messi is a player that can decide a match and with Balotelli it's the same," De Boer said.
"Balotelli is a fantastic player and next to him are players who can also make the difference. Milan have three very strong forwards and and a good midfield."
Despite their defeat at the hands of the Spanish champions, De Boer backed his side to pose a threat against Massimiliano Allegri's men.
"I am positive, I think that if we remain focused for 90 minutes we can get a good result here," said De Boer.
"We will go into the match with a positive attitude. We do not have a team that can hang back and play on the counter but they do.
"The most important thing is that we try to take three points."
Ajax come into the game off the back of mixed domestic form, having followed up their defeat against Barcelona with a 4-0 loss to PSV Eindhoven.
The Eredivisie champions then edged Volendam 4-2 in the KNVB Cup before seeing off Go Ahead Eagles 6-0 on Saturday.

PLAYERS DID NOT PROTEST AGAINST DI CANIO - OSHEA

John O'Shea has confirmed that senior Sunderland players went to the club's hierarchy to voice concerns over Paolo Di Canio.
The Italian parted ways with the Stadium of Light outfit following a 3-0 defeat away to West Brom on September 21, which left the club rooted to the bottom of the table without a league victory this season.
Rumours soon circulated that the former Swindon Town manager's reign ended due to a backlash from squad members over his management of the team.
And O'Shea has vindicated that speculation, but called for everyone to move on from the incident.
When asked whether players had approached senior club officials to raise concerns over Di Canio, O'Shea told The Shields Gazette: "That was obviously done. But we have to move on now.
"Because of the position we're in in the league, we can't keep going back to it. We've got some difficult months ahead.
"Whoever comes in, whether it's Bally (Kevin Ball) or a new manager, we've got tough times ahead.
"We have to stick together and if we keep going back to it, it'll soon be too hard to pull back from where we are."
Caretaker manager Ball saw his team put in a much-improved performance in Sunday's 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool.
And O'Shea revealed that the side would welcome the appointment of Ball on a permanent basis.
He added: "Without a doubt, he's made an impact. If It does happen the players would be very happy.
"But we will wait and see what the club decides."

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: SHAKHTAR V MAN UNITED

Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester United will meet for the first time in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash in Ukraine.
The two sides come into the game having won their opening Group A fixtures, with Shakhtar defeating Real Sociedad 2-0 in Spain while United ran out 4-2 victors over Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford.
Shakhtar have won all three of their previous home fixtures against English opposition in the Champions League, with successes over Arsenal in 2000-01 and 2010-11 before last season’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea, which helped eliminate the then-holders of the competition.
United’s last visit to Ukraine was a successful one though, ending in a 4-2 win over Dynamo Kiev in the 2007-08 group stage.
And Mircea Lucescu's men head into the fixture on the back of a run of inconsistent league form, having won only one of their past five matches in the Ukrainian Premier League, a division they have won for the last four consecutive seasons.
They currently sit third in the table, having dropped 10 points from the opening 11 games - just one point less than they missed out on in the whole of the last term.
Shakhtar's latest outing saw them come from two goals down to rescue a point against local rivals Metalurh Donetsk, with Eduardo coming off the bench to bag the equaliser with eight minutes remaining.
United, under new manager David Moyes, have also struggled for form domestically this season.
The three-time European champions have taken just seven points from their first six Premier League games, their worst start to a season since the 1989-90 campaign.
Moyes came in for criticism following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, a result that leaves the reigning champions eight points adrift of early leaders Arsenal.
However, the former Everton boss will have Nani available for the trip to Donetsk after the Portuguese winger missed the opening game through suspension following his red card in last season’s exit to Real Madrid.
Wayne Rooney’s two goals against Leverkusen made him the all-time leading British scorer in the competition with 29 goals, while Robin van Persie’s strike in the same game means he has now scored in 10 consecutive Champions League seasons.

AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREVIEW

Kashiwa Reysol coach Nelsinho Baptista has refused to give up hope of reaching the final of the AFC Champions League final.
The Japanese side were beaten 4-1 by Marcello Lippi's Guangzhou Evergrande in the first leg of their semi-final and face an uphill task in the second leg on Wednesday.
Reysol are without a win in their last five games in all competitions, while Evergrande have lost just once in the Chinese Super League this season.
However, Baptista believes his side can overcome the first-leg deficit and keep their hopes of winning the competition alive.
"I know the return leg will be a difficult one for us, but I also think that we still have the possibility to go to the next round," he told the AFC's website.
"I’ve seen some cases when a team has turned around the situation for their favour in a similar situation. Bearing that in our mind, we will prepare for our return leg.
"We are learning in the AFC Champions League. We reached the last 16 last year when we first played in the tournament and are now competing in the semi-finals and still have a chance to advance to the next round as we have the remaining half of this tie."
Evergrande are on the verge of their third consecutive CSL title after their 4-0 win over Hangzhou on Saturday.
As well as conceding just seven goals in the Champions League this season, Lippi's side are in prolific form at the other end of the pitch, having scored 12 times in their past three games in all competitions.
Four of those goals came in the second half against Reysol, but the former Italy boss is not taking anything for granted as he looks to ensure his team are the competition's first Chinese finalists since Dalian Wanda in 1998.
"I don’t think we have got (a place in the final) yet," the FIFA World Cup-winning coach said.
"I’m 64 years old this year and have been in the coaching business for 30 years, and from that experience I can tell that you that you never know what will happen next in football.
"Reysol have ability and were a tough side to play this time."
The winners of the tie will meet either Esteghlal or Seoul in the final, with the South Korean side taking a 2-0 advantage into Wednesday's second leg.

MOUTINHO: NO REGRETS OVER MONACO MOVE

Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho does not regret joining the Ligue 1 club from Porto in May.
Moutinho became only the third player to score in the league for Claudio Ranieri's side this season when he netted a 13th-minute equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Reims.
The Portugal international, who was close to signing for Tottenham in 2012, believes he made the right decision in moving to Monaco, despite missing out on UEFA Champions League football.
"I think I have played for big clubs like Sporting Lisbon and especially Porto," he told Le Parisien.
"The lack of interest from top European clubs in the summer? It does not matter to me.
"I am in a great club that has the ambition to compete with these kinds of teams."
Monaco are currently top of Ligue 1 ahead of champions Paris Saint-Germain on goal difference.
Radamel Falcao, another player to join Monaco since the club were promoted at the end of last season, leads the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts with seven goals from eight games.

WENGER PRAISES BENITEZ

Arsene Wenger described Rafael Benitez as a "top-class manager" ahead of Arsenal's fixture against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.
Wenger's side welcome the Serie A outfit to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday for the second game of their Group F campaign.
Both teams started with 2-1 victories, with Arsenal winning away in Marseille and Napoli tasting home success against last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
Benitez was appointed at the Stadio San Paolo in the close-season and has yet to see his side lose in Serie A.
And Wenger is anticipating a tough encounter against a familiar foe, after going head-to-head with the Spaniard during his stints at Liverpool and Chelsea.
"I think he is a top-class manager," the Frenchman said. "He has proven that. So when you are confronted with his teams you know it will always be difficult.
"But we are up for it and we have the confidence to do it.
"Our home form will be important, we have taken three points away from home. We know away from home we are in good form as well so I believe our home matches against all three teams will be important."
Arsenal sit top of the Premier League after taking 15 points from six matches and are on a nine-match winning run in all competitions, after bouncing back strongly from an opening-day defeat to Aston Villa.
They continued their fine form with a 2-1 triumph over Swansea City on Saturday, with goals from Serge Gnabry and Aaron Ramsey.
But Wenger described talk of his team being favourites for the Premier League title as "ridiculous".
"I think that our job most importantly is to find a balance between ambition and humility," he added.
"Ambition of course because we want to win but humility as well because we have only played six games. So to talk about the title today is absolutely ridiculous.
"What we have done is just what we want to do, to continue the same ambition. I think the team has a good humility level and is keen to improve."

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: PSG V BENFICA

Paris Saint-Germain host Benfica in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League encounter with both sides bidding to go clear at the top of Group C.
On matchday one, PSG thumped Olympiacos 4-1 in Greece and Benfica sealed a comfortable 2-0 success at home to Anderlecht, so a win for either side will open up a three-point gap and edge them closer to the knockout stages.
Last season saw PSG eliminated in the quarter-finals by Barcelona on away goals, while Benfica came third in a group containing the Spanish giants and Celtic before going on a run to the UEFA Europa League final, where they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.
The two sides last met two years ago in the Europa League round of 16 in 2010-11, with Benfica winning 3-2 on aggregate.
The only other meetings between the teams came in the same round of the same competition in 2007, and again the Portuguese outfit came out on top, overturning a 2-1 first-leg deficit with a 3-1 victory in Lisbon.
PSG have never lost a home fixture to Portuguese opposition, winning four and drawing two, and Laurent Blanc's side come into the game full of confidence having yet to taste defeat in Ligue 1 this season.
As reigning French champions, PSG are currently only denied top spot by Monaco on goal difference, having taken five wins and three draws from their opening eight fixtures, conceding just four goals in the process. PSG defeated Toulouse 2-0 on Saturday at the Parc des Princes, with goals from Marquinhos and Edinson Cavani.
Blanc will be without talismanic defender Thiago Silva, who pulled up with a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw with Monaco earlier this month and is facing six weeks out of action.
Benfica, two-time European champions, have a good recent record against French opposition, with last season's 3-2 victory in Bordeaux in the Europa League making it four wins in their last five games against Ligue 1 sides.
Domestically, Benfica find themselves five points adrift of leaders Porto after losing further ground at the weekend following a 1-1 home draw with Belenenses.
Bruno Cortez and Nicolas Gaitan both returned from injury in that game so manager Jorge Jesus will have them available as Benfica look to emulate Bayern Munich’s feat in 2012 by reaching the Champions League final in their own stadium.

BAYERN FACE AUGSBURG IN DFB -POKAL

Holders Bayern Munich have been handed a potentially tricky tie at fellow Bundesliga outfit Augsburg in the third round of the DFB-Pokal.
The Bavarian giants are looking to defend the title they won last season as part their historic treble-winning campaign that also saw them lift the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League trophies.
Their place in round three was secured courtesy of a 4-1 home rout of Hannover last Wednesday, with a double from Thomas Muller and strikes from Claudio Pizarro and Franck Ribery securing an emphatic win.
But Augsburg - who are seventh in the Bundesliga - will be hopeful of upsetting Pep Guardiola's men at the SGL Arena. Markus Weinzeirl's side breezed through the second round with a 3-0 success away to third-tier outfit Preussen Munster.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp will take his Borussia Dortmund side to the Ludwigsparkstadion to face third-division side Saarbrucken.
Dortmund currently lead the German top flight on goal difference from Bayern after racking up 21 goals in their first seven games, but needed extra time to see off Bundesliga 2 side 1860 Munchen 2-0 in the last round.
Other notable fixtures see all-Bundesliga ties between Schalke and Hoffenheim at the Veltins Arena, while strugglers Freiburg welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the Mage Solar Stadion.

Draw in full: Frankfurt v Sandhausen, Union Berlin v Kaiserslautern, Schalke v Hoffenheim, Saarbrucken v Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg v Cologne, Freiburg v Bayer Leverkusen, Augsburg v Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg v Ingolstadt

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREVIEW: ARSENAL V NAPOLI

The sides sat top of the Premier League and Serie A will meet on Tuesday when Napoli travel to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.
Both secured 2-1 wins in the opening round of matches and will square off in competitive action for the first time at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are on a nine-game winning run in all competitions, with defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League season the last time the London club tasted defeat.
Their latest success came in Saturday's 2-1 victory away to Swansea City, with a first professional goal from Serge Gnabry and an effort from in-form Aaron Ramsey - his fifth in his last four games - proving enough for the points.
And manager Arsene Wenger is confident that three points against the Serie A side will leave them in a strong position to reach the round of 16.
"If we win the second game we know we can qualify," he said.
"I wouldn't say it is already a decisive game - but it is a game that will have a great bearing on who qualifies.
"If we deal with that situation then we will be in a very positive mood to finish the job."
Arsenal's form has been all the more impressive with an injury list that includes Lukas Podolski (hamstring), Santi Cazorla (ankle) and Theo Walcott (stomach) among the players on the sidelines.
But defeating Napoli will be no easy task, as Rafael Benitez's tenure at the Stadio San Paolo has started in terrific fashion.
Napoli have won five and drawn one of their six Serie A fixtures, and began their Champions League campaign with an impressive triumph over last season's runners-up, Borussia Dortmund.
Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne did the damage on that occasion, and they claimed the maximum haul despite Camilo Zuniga's late own-goal.
Despite their excellent start, Benitez believes the side is yet to reach their full potential, but says the club are confident of their chances in London.
"We talk with the team every day and we know that we are at 75 per cent," he told the club's official website.
"Now we must continue to grow. I know that we can and we must be competitive to try and win against all opponents.
"That is what we will try to do in London against Arsenal."
Christian Maggio (knee) is Benitez's only absentee, with Higuain set to start against a club he came close to joining over the close-season.
Reports suggested that Arsenal were ultimately unwilling to match Napoli's fee for the former Real Madrid man, paving the way for a move to Serie A, while the Argentinian was afforded a frosty reception when the Naples club played against Arsenal in pre-season during the Emirates Cup.

BRAZIL SERIE A WRAP

Cruzeiro continued their stunning Brazil Serie A campaign with a 2-1 win over Internacional on Sunday.
Marcelo Oliveira's men have been the dominant side this season and maintained their 11-point lead at the top with their latest win.

Nilton and Willian scored either side of Otavinho's sixth-minute equaliser at the Estadio do Vale in Rio Grande do Sul.

Cruzeiro are unbeaten in 10 straight league matches after battling past seventh-placed Internacional.

The visitors needed just four minutes to open the scoring as Nilton cleverly headed in an Egidio set-piece into the corner.

Otavinho sent the home fans into raptures just moments later as he neatly finished into the bottom corner after a scrappy build-up.

Both teams looked for a winner but it was Cruzeiro who found it through Willian.

Dagoberto released the attacker down the left and Willian finessed his finish into the bottom corner, giving Internacional goalkeeper Muriel no chance.

Gremio ensured the lead at the top stayed at 11 points as Eduardo Vargas' 69th-minute goal saw them to a 1-0 win at Sao Paulo.

Botafogo remain third despite a third straight loss, upset 1-0 by Ponte Preta as Elias scored a penalty late in the first half.

Fourth-placed Atletico PR staged a fine comeback before slumping to a 5-3 loss at home to Vitoria.

Vitoria opened up a 3-0 lead by half-time, but the hosts fought back with three goals in 13 second-half minutes.

But William Henrique and Ayrton struck late on for Vitoria to help them up to sixth on the table.

Bottom side Nautico continued their resurgence as they extended their unbeaten league run to three matches with a 3-0 win at home to Coritiba.

Fluminense overcame Goias 2-1, Hernane netted a brace in Flamengo's 4-1 win over Criciuma and Gilberto's hat-trick saw Portuguesa past Corinthians 4-0.

Bahia and Vasco da Gama drew 0-0 and Atletico Mineiro came from behind to beat Santos 3-1.

PERU PRIMERA DIVISION WRAP UP

Peru Primera Division group leaders Real Garcilaso and Universitario extended their respective advantages at the top.
In Group A, Real Garcilaso played out a 0-0 draw at Melgar, who were reduced to 10 men on 80 minutes when Ysrael Zuniga was red-carded.

Despite the draw, Fredy Garcia's men extended their advantage to five points after Sporting Cristal were beaten.

Victor Rossel scored a 39th-minute winner for Union Comercio to see them to an upset 1-0 win at the second-placed side.

In other Group A matches, Alianza Lima and Sport Huancayo played out a 1-1 draw and Cesar Vallejo were 2-1 winners at Pacifico.

Universitario are eight points clear atop Group B after a come-from-behind 3-1 victory at home to Inti Gas.

Julio Landauri gave the visitors an 11th-minute lead, but it was cancelled out by a Manuel Ruidiaz penalty soon after.

Edwin Gomez was the hero for the victors as his second-half brace saw them collect three points.

Inti Gas are second but failed to take their chance to close the gap with the loss.

UTC Cajamarca's poor form continued as they drew 1-1 at home to Juan Aurich, with Roberto Ovelar and Ricardo Ronceros scoring penalties.

Leon de Huanuco slumped to a 1-0 loss at Cienciano and Jose Galvez and Universidad San Martin played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

CHILE PRIMERA DIVISION WRAP

O'Higgins were the big winners in the Chile Primera Division on the weekend as the top two faltered.
A 69th-minute penalty from Pablo Hernandez helped O'Higgins to a 1-0 win at home to Huachipato, moving them level on points with Universidad Catolica and Cobreloa.

Eduardo Berizzo's O'Higgins are third because of their inferior goal difference but the victory was their third straight in the league.

Universidad Catolica slipped up for the second straight game and in stunning fashion as they conceded two late goals to draw 2-2 at Deportes Iquique.

Jose Munoz and Ismael Sosa scored in the first half for the league leaders and they looked set for a comfortable victory.

But in a dramatic finish, Gerson Martinez and Manuel Villalobos both struck to secure a surprise point for their seventh-placed side.

Cobreloa would be top had they managed to take anything from their trip to Palestino, who claimed a 2-0 win.

Diego Chaves and Javier Capelli scored for the victors, while Cobreloa had Rene Lima and Cristian Gaitan sent off.

Elsewhere, Universidad Chile were 2-0 winners at Union Espanola and Universidad Concepcion struck late in a 2-1 win at home to Audax Italiano.

Santiago Wanderers completed a 3-0 win at home to Everton, but their victory was marred by five red cards.

Everton had Alex von Schwedler sent off on 11 minutes and were 2-0 down at half-time after Sebastian Pol's brace.

Pol's second goal came in the third minute of additional time before he picked up a second yellow card to be sent off.

Sebastian Mendez and Orlando Gutierrez were red-carded on 55 minutes to see both teams reduced to nine men.

Everton substitute Francisco Dutari was then sent off 10 minutes later and Oscar Opazo ensured Santiago Wanderers took all three points with his goal.

Rangers' struggles continued as they were beaten 3-0 by Nublense, Union La Calera and Antofagasta drew 1-1 and Cobresal were 3-1 winners over Colo Colo.

VENEZUELA PRIMERA DIVISION WRAP UP

Caracas are under pressure atop the Venezuela Primera Division after they drew, while several of their rivals won.
Eduardo Sarago's men were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Estudiantes de Merida and only hold top spot on goal difference.

Yorwin Lobo gave the visitors a 17th-minute lead and Caracas earned a point thanks to Javier Guillen's second-half own goal.

Deportivo Anzoategui drew level on points with the league leaders thanks to a 2-0 win over Deportivo Tachira.

Edwin Aguilar and Robert Hernandez scored in the first half of the win.

Carabobo and Zamora remain just a point behind the top two after securing contrasting victories.

Pablo Olivera scored a brace to help Carabobo to a 4-0 thrashing of Mineros de Guayana and Zamora survived a late scare to overcome Aragua 3-2.

Juan Garcia helped Tucanes to a 1-0 victory over Deportivo Lara and Darwin Gomez scored the winner in Atletico El Vigia's 3-2 win over Yaracuyanos.

There were also three scoreless draws on the weekend.

Atletico Venezuela and Deportivo Petare played out a 0-0 draw, Zulia and Deportivo La Guaira earned a point each and Llaneros de Guanare's clash with Trujillanos ended goalless.

MARTINEZ SALUTES BARRY ON 500TH EPL LANDMARK

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has paid tribute to midfielder Gareth Barry ahead of what is set to be his 500th Premier League appearance.
The England international will become the 10th player in Premier League history to reach the landmark if he features in the club's fixture against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Monday.
Barry made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in May 1998 and will join the likes of Frank Lampard and Ryan Giggs in featuring 500 times in the top flight.
The 32-year-old moved to Manchester City in June 2009 and was part of the side that won the FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title in 2012.
Martinez then took him to Goodison Park on a loan deal in August and the Spaniard hailed Barry's professionalism.
"I don't think there are many more significant records than that," he said.
"I think it represents his professionalism, the way he looks after himself, the way he sees the game and the experience that he brings into any side.
"And you can add the 50 appearances he's had for England so far. He's in such a great moment in his career."
Martinez also praised Barry's impact since arriving at the Merseyside club and backed him to continue playing at the top level for a number of years.
"Gareth could be a very significant player for Everton for years to come," he continued. "When you see a player perform the way Gareth did on his home debut, straight away you see a perfect fit.
"I think Gareth can play up to his 40s. The longer he plays and the older he gets he will be able to influence the team in a different way like Ryan Giggs has done at Manchester United."

JONES OUT OF BASEL CLASH

Schalke will be without midfielder Jermaine Jones for their UEFA Champions League clash with Basel on Tuesday.
Jens Keller's men travel to St Jakob-Park with both sides having won their opening games in the competition this season.
However, according to the midfielder, he will not feature in the squad for the game as he will undergo surgery on a meniscus injury.
"It’s true that the club has taken me from the squad so I can take the time to repair my meniscus," Jones told Bild.
"Regardless of what the club decided now, surgery eventually would have been inevitable because of the persistent pain."
Jones was substituted four minutes from time in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
The injury could rule him out for six weeks, which would mean he misses the USA's final FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica and Panama.

LOW SET FOR TALKS WITH KIESSLING

Germany manager Joachim Low is to speak with Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling over a potential international call-up.
Kiessling has scored five times in the Bundesliga this season, having been crowned the league's most prolific player in the previous campaign.
However, he has not featured for Germany since 2010, when he was an unused substitute in a 6-1 win over Azerbaijan.
With Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez both ruled out of October's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden, Low looks set to turn to the 29-year-old.
"Stefan Kiessling is a striker who has put in very good performances in the Bundesliga over the years," Low said according to Bild.
"I will have a conversation with him and discuss a few things internally. I will never write him off because he has very good qualities."
Low explained that "Klose and Gomez are the best options", before stating that Max Kruse and Kevin Volland, of Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim respectively, are "in the foreground".

JOL CONFIDENT OF KEEPING FULHAM IN THE EPL

Martin Jol is confident that he can reverse Fulham's fortunes after a poor start to the Premier League campaign.
The London club have taken maximum points just once in their six domestic fixtures this season, in a 1-0 victory away to Sunderland on the opening day.
Since then the club have lost four and drawn once, a run that has seen them slip into the relegation zone.
Their latest setback came in a 2-1 reverse against Cardiff City at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with Jordon Mutch scoring a spectacular injury-time winner for Malky Mackay's side.
But despite their alarming run, Jol believes that he can guide the team away from trouble.
"The devil was playing with us," he said. "If you concede goals that late, it's awful.
"We are very close. It's not easy to win games.
"I can appreciate fans are getting a bit nervous, or other people. If they invest money in the club, they would like to be in the top 10.
"The only risk I can see is that we will still be near the bottom at the end of the season.
"I feel I can keep them up, but it's not about me."

ALVES WARNS LUCKY CELTIC

Barcelona's Dani Alves has warned Celtic that there will be no repeat of the Scottish side's famous UEFA Champions League win last season.
Neil Lennon's men clinched an historic 2-1 victory over the Spanish outfit at Celtic Park in November on their way to a place in the last 16.
However, defender Alves believes that Celtic were "lucky" to get the win and has warned the Scottish champions that his team-mates will not make the same mistake again on Tuesday.
"We lost in Scotland last season but the reality was it wasn't a fair result," Alves is quoted as saying by The Daily Record.
"We accepted we lost but it was down to individual errors. It was not down to Celtic playing better football than us on the night.
"They were lucky. It was a one-off that won't happen again."
Much has been said of the alterations made to Barcelona's playing style under new coach Gerardo Martino, with Gerard Pique in particular praising a slightly more direct approach at Camp Nou.
Alves, however, is more focused on how Celtic will play and is confident that his side will know how to cope with their tactics.
"We have anticipated the way that Celtic will play against us and we have to accept that," he continued.
"If they adopt the same approach again, they will be very fortunate to get anything from the game this time."
Barcelona got their Champions League campaign up and running with a 4-0 win against Ajax, while Celtic were beaten 2-0 by Milan at San Siro.

MLS WRAP UP

The New York Red Bulls extended their lead atop the Eastern Conference in MLS as Real Salt Lake moved top in the west.
In a battle between two of the competition's top teams on Sunday, the Red Bulls came from behind to draw 1-1 against the Seattle Sounders.

Brad Evans had given the Sounders the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, but Australia international Tim Cahill levelled on 76 minutes.

Seattle won a penalty just before half-time when an Evans cross struck the arm of Swedish defender Markus Holgersson.

Evans stepped up to take the spot-kick, powerfully placing the penalty into the bottom corner and giving Luis Robles no chance.

Cahill equalised for the Red Bulls with a fine goal, curling his finish into the corner to earn his side a point.

The draw saw Seattle slip from top spot in the Western Conference as Real Salt Lake edged the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0.

Devon Sandoval's ninth-minute opener was all they needed at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

Sporting Kansas City fell four points behind the Red Bulls after a 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union, who had Conor Casey strike in the first half.

Italian striker Marco Di Vaio scored his 19th league goal of the season but his Montreal Impact were held to a 2-2 draw at the Chicago Fire.

Mike Magee, second to Di Vaio in the scoring charts with 18, netted a brace for Chicago.

The Los Angeles Galaxy's indifferent season continued as they suffered a 1-0 loss to the Portland Timbers and New England and the Houston Dynamo drew 1-1.

The San Jose Earthquakes left it late to get past Chivas USA as Chris Wondolowski's 87th-minute goal gave them a 1-0 win.

Toronto conceded early before easing to a comfortable 4-1 win over DC United and the Columbus Crew were 4-2 victors at Dallas.

ARGENTINA PRIMERA DIVISION WRAP UP

Newell's Old Boys maintained their one-point advantage atop the Argentina Primera Division as the top five all won.
Maxi Rodriguez was on the scoresheet again as Newell's Old Boys recorded a 2-0 win at home to Argentinos Juniors.

Rodriguez netted for the fourth straight game, released down the right before unleashing a powerful finish into the bottom corner on 21 minutes.

The former Liverpool man missed a penalty seven minutes before half-time, but Pablo Perez doubled his side's lead in the second half.

Perez's cracking strike from just outside the area had too much power for Argentinos goalkeeper Paolo Migliore.

San Lorenzo stayed a point behind in second as they dealt with Gimnasia La Plata 3-0 at home.

Ignacio Piatti scored a brace for the victors, either side of Pablo Alvarado's 51st-minute goal.

Arsenal are two points further back after a 1-0 win over Godoy Cruz, who finished the encounter with nine men after two late red cards.

Emmanuel Gigliotti led Boca Juniors to a 2-0 win over Quilmes thanks to his brace and Gabriel Mercado's late winner saw River Plate past Lanus 1-0.

Racing Club remain winless and in bottom spot after a 3-0 loss to Belgrano, who had Cesar Pereyra score a brace.

All Boys and Rosario Central played out a 1-1 draw and Estudiantes and Velez Sarsfield were unable to be separated in a 0-0 result.

Atletico Rafaela battled past Olimpo 2-0 and Tigre edged Colon 1-0 in a game which saw four red cards shown.

WILSHERE PREDICTS FURTHER RASMSEY IMPROVEMENTS

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has backed in-form team-mate Aaron Ramsey to improve on his impressive start to the season.
The Welshman has begun the new campaign with eight goals in nine appearances in all competitions.
Ramsey once again caught the eye in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty stadium, providing the assist for Serge Gnabry's first professional goal before netting the second.
And Wilshere was full of praise for his midfield partner, warning rivals that the 22-year-old will get better for Arsene Wenger's side.
"If he carries on playing the way he is and working hard, he can improve further," Wilshere said.
"He's got a great appetite for the game and he wants to improve all the time. He's fit, he's young and he's showing his best form. Hopefully he can continue it and get even better.
"His fitness levels are not normal. He's naturally so fit he can score at any time in the game.
"He's pushing on in the 94th minute trying to get another. Not many players can do that.
"Hopefully he can keep his run going. The great thing is that he's got his confidence back."
The victory over Swansea leaves Arsenal leading the Premier League, but Wilshere admitted that there can be no let-up in their pursuit of the title.
He added: "It's nice to look at the table and be top, but we know it's only a good start. We've got to keep it going.
"There's an international break coming up soon when we won't play for a fortnight and we want to be top then."

MOURINHO BELIEVES TERRY DESERVES NEW DEAL

Jose Mourinho insists that John Terry will have no problem earning himself a new contract at Chelsea if he maintains his current form.
The 32-year-old headed home his first goal of the season to cancel out Gylfi Sigurdsson's opener in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Terry cut a frustrated figure last season after struggling to hold down a first-team place under previous manager Rafael Benitez.
But he has been an ever-present under Mourinho in the Premier League this term and the Portuguese has been delighted with the former England captain's form, even backing him to earn a new deal at the club.
"I think he always has a future the way he is playing - he has a future in here (at Chelsea), in China, or wherever he wants to have a future," Mourinho said.
"I have always told him from day one - don't speak (publicly) about signing a new contract, just speak about working very hard from a physical point of view so you don't have the same kind of problems you have had in the past two years.
"He is a very good player and very good players have no problems with their contracts."
Mourinho believes that Terry's impressive start to the campaign is down to mutual trust between the pair.
He added: "I think the fact that he knows that I like him has been important.
"I trust the player. This is important. In his head he knows if I leave him out I am trying to do the best thing for him and the best thing for the team so he is not under this pressure he was in other years.
"Physically we are working very well with him. I think he is in good condition and he is a brilliant boy."

CHIELLINI URGES DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has warned his Juventus team-mates of the need to improve defensively.
The Italian champions kept their second clean sheet in the league this season in their 1-0 victory over rivals Torino on Sunday.
However, Chiellini believes that Antonio Conte's side have shown weaknesses at the back during the campaign so far.
"We have to improve in certain aspects," he told Corriere dello Sport.
"We’ve conceded a few goals this season thanks to a lack of focus from ourselves, even if we have managed to win almost all of our games.
"Saying that, against Torino, we ran no risks at all at the back."
Juventus host Galatsaray in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday and Milan in Serie A on Sunday.
Conte's men have not lost since the final game of last season - a 3-2 defeat against Sampdoria.

GARCIA TORAL UPBEAT DESPITE DEFEAT

Villarreal boss Marcelino Garcia Toral reflected on a positive start to the campaign despite suffering a first defeat on Sunday.
Garcia Toral saw his side's unbeaten run this term ended against Real Betis thanks to a first-half Nosa Igiebor strike at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
However, despite the loss, Garcia Toral believes that his side can be proud of their achievements so far in the campaign.
"It is a shame that we have not been able to take any of the chances," he said.
"It is true that I am annoyed with the result, but losing only in our seventh game is something to be proud of.
"There are many ways to lose, this hurts less."
Garcia Toral was sent to the stands during the match for protesting a decision not to award a penalty when Javier Aquino went down in the final minute.
However, the Spaniard has defended his actions and insisted that he was right to protest.
"I protested with my arms raised, but I did not insult or belittle the referee," he continued.
"I will not talk about the referee. I’m not going to speak of him excellently, nor badly. I am not afraid of his report. You can only put in a protest at his decision but nothing more.
"The images and facts are what they are. The players, who are implicated, have told me that something on the field had happened and then it is for the referee to decide. Nothing more."

PASTORE LACKING CONFIDENCE - BLANC

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc believes Javier Pastore's mixed performances this season are because of a lack of confidence.
The Argentine, 24, has struggled to find his best form for the Ligue 1 giants, who sit second to Monaco early in the campaign.
Blanc, whose side face Toulouse on Saturday, said his team's system was not the problem, urging Pastore to believe in himself.
"If I knew (the problem), I would put it into practice," Blanc said.
"The problem is this player needs to regain the confidence, he needs a lot of confidence and at this moment, he has not enough confidence.
"We have to help him."
Blanc said it would be dangerous to set up his side solely to suit Pastore, who joined PSG in a big-money move in August 2011.
"We all love him. We are expecting good performances from him. We have tried to find the best conditions for him," Blanc said.
"But I can't put only one player in the best conditions. It's dangerous for the balance of the team.
"And I repeat, the Javier problem isn't about the system.
"Last year, during some games, he played very well in 4-4-2. He was extraordinary in a lot of games. It's not a problem of system."
Blanc talked up the importance of his side's clash against 11th-placed Toulouse, despite having important games against Benfica – in the Champions League – and Marseille to follow.
"The game against Benfica is in another competition. I think players take things into consideration," he said.
"It's another competition. In championship, in all the games, away or at home, we can earn three points.
"And if we want to accentuate the last victory away (against Valenciennes), we have to win against Toulouse, even if we have a lot of respect for Toulouse."

MARTINO DEFENDS ROTATION POLICY

Barcelona head coach Gerardo Martino has dismissed his players' discontent over his rotation policy, claiming he must look after their health.
The Spanish media has been focused on Martino's rotation policy since he substituted star forward Lionel Messi against Real Sociedad in Barcelona's 4-1 win on Tuesday.
It was the second time Martino had taken Messi off before the final whistle in La Liga this season and the four-time Ballon d'Or winner did not look pleased at the Camp Nou.
But Barcelona's head coach does not care what his players think and dismissed any suggestions of a feud.
"I have no disagreements with him nor comparisons with other seasons, this is the first that I am working with him," Martino said.
"Leo does not like being changed nor does Neymar, Xavi (Hernandez), Cesc (Fabregas) and (Andres) Iniesta.
"But I was hired to make decisions that relate to the health of the team and the players over the season, so that they are all fit at the decisive stage of the season.
"I'm going to do that and I am aware that no-one likes to be taken off, I reflect that and understand.
"Traditionally it happens with any player but we are managing the minutes with a view to everything, we cannot divert our attention if we want the full squad in the final stretch."
Barcelona will travel to Almeria on Saturday for their next fixture in Spain's top tier and while the south-coast club are languishing in the relegation zone ahead of the game, Martino has warned his side about their upcoming opponents.
Of the top seven goal scorers so far this season, all but one comes from the top-three clubs; Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
That man is Almeria's lead striker Rodri Rios Lozano, who has four goals in six league games this season.
Martino believes if they closed out games, Almeria would be higher up La Liga's standings.
"Almeria missed many points in the end of their games whether one or the three but they do have skilful players especially up front," Martino said.
"Their two wingers are good at one-to-one and also Rodri and Soriano complete well their attacking movements.
"I think every single opponent demands the best from you and to be focused but if we do our game then the chances to win will increase."

MANDZUKIC UNFAZED BY LEAGUE TABLE

Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic has declared the Bundesliga table 'doesn't bother' the club at the moment.
Heading into Saturday's clash with Wolfsburg, Bayern sit just behind Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga due to goals scored, with both teams level on 16 points from six matches and with goal differences of plus 11.
But Mandzukic says the reigning German champions are not worried about where they sit on the Bundesliga table at this point of the season and simply want to continue their fine form against Wolfsburg.
"Winning the match is the most important, that's what we are going to try tomorrow," Mandzukic said on Friday.
"The table is important but it doesn't bother us much right now.
"We will have to win the games and see what happens."
Mandzukic will line-up against his former club on Saturday having joined Bayern from Wolfsburg before the 2012/13 season.
Wolfsburg sit seventh after a 2-1 win over Hoffenheim last week.
Mandzukic also discussed how Bayern are handling the transition from former head coach Jupp Heynckes and new boss Pep Guardiola, who is attempting to introduce the tiki-taka style of football he made famous with Barcelona.
"We are getting better game by game, that's what we were targeting to play the way we are," Mandzukic said.
"We knew we needed some time to adapt ourselves. I can only say positive things right now."

GETAFE SIGN ROMANIAN STRIKER MARICA

Romanian striker Ciprian Marica has signed for La Liga club Getafe, ending his four-month search for a new employer.
Marica left Bundesliga outfit Schalke when his contract expired at the end of last season and despite being linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, he remained without a club until he signed with Getafe.
Getafe confirmed they had secured the 27-year-old striker on Friday with a statement on their website.
"The Romanian striker Ciprian Andrei Marica ... has become part of (Getafe)," the Madrid-based club said.
"The forward player trained this afternoon for the first time with his new team-mates."
Marica, who has scored 22 goals in 64 games for Romania, struck six times for Schalke in 19 appearances for the German club last season.
The Dinamo Bucharest youth product has also played for Stuttgart and Shakhtar Donetsk in his career.

CRISTIANO RONALDO IS THE KING OF BLINGS

Image is everything for football's 'King of Bling' Cristiano Ronaldo who has been spotted about town flashing a jewel encrusted timepiece that would likely put a dent into even in his substantial wallet.
The watch is a Jacob and Company limited edition H24 with a total diamond weight of 15.25 cts and an retail price of nearly £100,000.
However, despite being able to afford the ostentatious accessory following the renewal of his Real Madrid contract earning him around £288,000 per week, the world's most image conscious player is unlikely to have paid the full price - since he is the new face of the luxury watchmakers.
The Portuguese was seen leaving a Madrid restaurant wearing a watch that costs more than most cars before stepping into his Lamborghini Aventador - a car worth more than most houses.

'I’ve been a customer and fan of the brand for a long time so it is a natural fit. I always used Jacob watches, even before I knew Jacob,” said Ronaldo, referring to Jacob Arabo, the founder of the company.
The Portuguese recently starred in a high-profile advertising campaign to complete the relaunch of the company.
Ronaldo who has also fronted campaigns for Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans, Nike and Pepe Jeans said he was comfortable in front of the camera - to the surprise of absolutely no one.

“I always try to do my best on-set, as I do on-field,” said Ronaldo during the photo shoot in Madrid.
'I try to accomplish the briefing I’m told [about the campaign] and I’m quite used now to being in front of the camera.'
The 28-year-old has also been recently seen sweating in a tuxedo on the red carpet for Jacob & Co.'s gala event in Monte Carlo.

OUT OF FAVOUR MATA GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORT

Out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has thanked the club's supporters and his team-mates for their support as he struggles for games.
Mata has barely played this season despite winning Chelsea's player of the year award over the past two campaigns, with his new manager Jose Mourinho having explained publicly that he wants more out of the Spanish midfielder.
Mourinho believes Brazilian midfielder Oscar is Chelsea's best option in behind the lead striker, while the Portuguese tactician wants Mata to play as a winger and work harder defensively.
Mata has started just two of Chelsea's five English Premier League matches so far this season and, while he maintains he has no problems with Mourinho, the 25-year-old playmaker has thanked all those who have backed him to get through his tough period.
"It is nice to feel the people are behind you and supporting you," Mata said.
"I feel really loved, by my team-mates, by the club, by the supporters.
"In the dressing room we are friends, all of them they are speaking to me, 'be patient, be calm, we know how good you are'.
"That is very important to me."
Mata maintained he is on board with Mourinho's desire to see him move involved defensively.
"My dad always said to me, 'if you are left-footed, improve with your right'," Mata said.
"I have to improve defensively too.
"To be the perfect player is very, very difficult.
"If you ask me last season if it was the perfect season, it was the best in my career but I could still have done better.
"I think Jose can help me. I think he's a manager who analyses everything, not just in our team but in the opposition."
The former Valencia midfielder added he remains hopeful he will play in Chelsea's Premier League clash with London rivals Tottenham on Saturday.
"I can't wait to play, I can't wait," Mata said.
"I'm looking forward to play."

REINA UNLIKELY TO RETURN TO LIVERPOOL

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes his Liverpool career is over after his loan move to Serie A side Napoli.
In a bid to reduce their wage bill, Liverpool loaned out the Spanish goalkeeper, who reunited with former manager Rafael Benitez in Naples.
Reina has made a strong start at high-flying Napoli and became the first player to save a penalty from Mario Balotelli in a game in his side's 2-1 win over Milan on September 22.
The 31-year-old said his loan move came as a surprise and believes he may have played his last game for the English Premier League club.
"At the moment it's difficult to think about being a Liverpool player next year. They have a young goalkeeper in Simon Mignolet and the manager prefers him to me," Reina told the Daily Mail.
"That's the reason why I'm here and he will be at the club next year as well. There's no reason to think I'll be a Liverpool player from now on but we'll see where the future takes us.
"It's been a good move so far and I don't regret what happened. I would have preferred to say goodbye in a different way."
Reina, who had been linked with a move to Barcelona, said it was a shock when he received the call telling him he was set to be loaned out.
"It did come as a surprise," he said.
"It was the club who made the move. I was on my holidays and nobody told me anything.
"Suddenly Napoli called and said they were agreeing terms with Liverpool and Liverpool just rang me two days later and said the same. They probably had their own reasons."
Reina has three years remaining on his contract at Liverpool but said his focus was firmly on performing well this season and earning a spot in Spain's squad for the 2014 World Cup.
"I want to enjoy this year. It is such an important one for me with the World Cup around the corner and returning to the top flight, playing in the Champions League and fighting for the title, is something I have missed in the last two or three years," Reina said.
"I'm happy to be back at this level. I never expected it but it's been a great decision. I feel invigorated by the move.
"Mentally, I'm fresher, I have more hunger. It is not like before I wasn't, but a change can be good for your mind.
"You have to show the people even more and you have to be ready. The tactics and the managerial skills of Rafa are getting the best from me and that's one more reason."

PELLEGRINI CALLS FOR NASRI CONSISTENCE

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has challenged Samir Nasri to remain 'great' for a full season after the Frenchman's top start.
Nasri has started three of City's past four matches, only missing the League Cup tie against Wigan on Tuesday, while the 26-year-old midfielder was arguably his team's best player in their 4-1 demolition of Manchester United in the Premier League last week.
The talented playmaker has earned a reputation as a frustrating player to coach with former City manager Roberto Mancini having once claimed he wanted to 'punch' the Frenchman, while ex-France head coach Raymond Domenech claimed Nasri was solely motivated by 'self-interest'.
But Pellegrini seems to have no issues with Nasri but has called on the Marseille-born man to show consistent form this season.
"At this moment, Nasri is playing very, very well," Pellegrini said.
"I talk often with him because I know how much he can be a big player.
"I am always wanting that level of performance from him and he knows he must play the way I know he can.
"If he doesn't, it may be that we have another choice (to make) but Nasri is absolutely committed with the team, with me, with all the other players. So we will be happy if we see a great Nasri the whole year.

"He is a player with great technical quality. He works the whole game a lot, not just the last 25 minutes, and he is a very creative player, a classy player."
Ahead of City's trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, Pellegrini has extended his challenge to Nasri to his entire squad.
City have failed to claim consecutive victories in the Premier League this season and Pellegrini has warned his players they must produce consistent wins or they will be unable to challenge for the title.
"Every team who wants to win something must demonstrate every week the intensity, the quality, the spirit we have here in this team," Pellegrini said.
"If you think you are going to win just with quality, then I think you are making a great mistake.
"I hope the team will continue trying to win every game we play but it's not easy. We are not going to win by four or five goals every week.
"It is very important for the team to win all the derbies, all the very important games.
"But also we are trying to improve our mentality and intensity in every game.
"Then our quality will maybe make a small difference."

BALOTELLI WANTED TEVEZ AT MILAN

Milan striker Mario Balotelli has revealed he tried to convince Carlos Tevez to join him at the San Siro this season.
Balotelli and Tevez were team-mates at Manchester City and the former has claimed he rang his fellow striker in an attempt to lure him to Milan before the Argentine joined Juventus in June.
Tevez has been one of the stories of the Serie A season so far having scored four goals in seven games in all competitions for Juventus as the reigning champions sit fourth in the league, two points adrift of leaders Roma.
But if Balotelli had his way, Tevez would have been playing in red and black stripes, rather than Juventus' famous black and white shirts.
"Carlitos is a great player," Balotelli told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday.
"I got on well with him at Manchester City.
"I phoned him on a number of occasions in an effort to convince him to join us (Milan) but he then chose Juventus instead.
"That's a shame."
Balotelli also questioned the quality of Napoli's side despite having been a part of Milan's 2-1 loss to Rafael Benitez's men last week.
The 23-year-old missed the first penalty of his professional career against Napoli but Balotelli indicated Benitez's men have yet to gel together.
"It was going to happen sooner or later," Balotelli said when asked about the penalty miss.
"(Napoli goalkeeper) Pepe Reina did well.
"I looked into his eyes but I then looked down and it ended badly.
"Napoli? They have Gonzalo Higuain, Marek Hamsik, Juan Zuniga, they have great players but they didn't impress me as a team."

BAYERN ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD - GUSTAVO

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo believes the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League holders are the best club in the world.
The Bavarians took the domestic and European titles last season, while also sealing the DFB-Pokal to complete a historic treble, never before done by a German club.
Gustavo left the Allianz Arena for Wolfsburg in the close-season, but will return on Saturday and took time to praise his former employers before going head-to-head.
He told Bayern's official website: "After winning the treble last season, Bayern are the best club in the world - you can be as definitive as that.
"So every opposing team will try and beat them. But they have so much quality, and if they pull together, they could do it all over again.
"It'll certainly be very different compared to a normal away game. I had two and a half seasons with Bayern, and now I'm back as a member of the opposing team.
"But it's also a very good feeling. We're playing against an extremely good team, and that's exactly what you want as a footballer. On top of that, I'll meet up again with a lot of the friends I made during my time with Bayern."
Gustavo turned down a move to Arsenal in order to seal his switch to the Volkswagen Arena and is looking forward to seeing friends, fellow Brazilians and former team-mates Dante and Rafinha on Saturday.
He added: "Those two will be very good friends for the rest of my life, and I met them in Munich.
"But it's not only them, it's also Franck Ribery, David Alaba and many others. We were always a very good group, the main reason why we were so successful."

RONALDINHO DOUBTFUL FOR WORLD CLUB CUP

Atletico Mineiro star Ronaldinho is an injury doubt for December's Club World Cup after suffering a torn groin muscle.
The Copa Libertadores champions will likely be placed as second favourites behind UEFA Champions League holders Bayern Munich for the tournament, which is being held in Morocco for 2013.
However, they could have to do so without one of their key players, with the former Milan and Barcelona star likely to remain sidelined for the next three months.
Club medical director Rodrigo Lasmar told Atletico's official website: "Ronaldinho felt pain in the left thigh adductor region and, after clinical examination and imaging, we confirmed that he had a total rupture of adductor muscles of the left thigh.
"He's in intensive care and we await developments. The player is in the care of our physiotherapy department and every effort will be made to ensure that he recovers as soon as possible.
"We're always very careful in talking about time because there is no rule, there are many factors involved that can influence the term.
"It's a serious injury, but recovery time is short, it revolves around two and a half months, three months, three and a half months.
"The big question is whether he will be able to play the Club World Cup. We must believe in that possibility.
"A major effort will be made so that it is available to the coaching staff. It is a challenge, but the athlete is motivated, we're motivated and there is no restriction, the treatment can be done full-time."
MRI images displaying Ronaldinho's injury had been leaked to the Brazilian press with those actions condemned by Atletico in a separate statement.
Lasmar wrote: "The leak of these pictures is absurd and brings outrage as it is a severe breach of faith and conduct.
"Atletico's medical department always respected the privacy of athletes, safeguarding the rights guaranteed by the code of ethics of the profession.
"The club will take the appropriate steps in order to clarify responsibilities in relation to the subject."

STURRIDGE, SUAREZ BACKED TO FLOURISH

Liverpool's assistant manager Colin Pascoe has backed strikers Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez to forge a strong partnership.
The former Chelsea forward is currently joint top of the Premier League's scoring charts, with four goals, while Suarez is set to make his Premier League return at Sunderland on Sunday - having served a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic in April.
Following Suarez's return to first-team action in the 1-0 League Cup defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday, Pascoe feels the pair can complement one another.
"Sturridge has been superb up there on his own and he's got the goals and worked hard for the team. With Luis coming back in, we're all excited about it," he told the club's official website.
"Straightaway we've got a world-class striker coming back in."
Suarez had looked set to leave Anfield during the close-season, with the Uruguay international stating his desire to move away and Arsenal seeing two bids rejected.
However, Pascoe maintains the 26-year-old is fully focused on helping Brendan Rodgers' side.
"He's a great lad and he's very committed to the team and to Liverpool. The way Luis plays, he'll create chances and I'm sure that he'll score many goals," he continued.
"His return has given us a boost at Melwood. He has of course been around and he's been training over the last few months.
"But once we knew that we had a date he would return for, the players couldn't wait to get their arms around him and welcome him back into the side."

ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN AGAINST TORINO - CONTE

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has moved to sharpen his side's focus ahead of Sunday's derby clash with Torino.
The Serie A champions have not lost to their neighbouring rivals in 18 years and have won all but one of their domestic fixtures so far this campaign.
A 2-1 win over Chievo last time out was sealed by an own-goal from Alessandro Bernardini while striker Alberto Paloschi also saw a goal incorrectly chalked off.
And Conte, who was a Juve player the last time Torino secured victory in the Derby della Mole has warned his players to step up their performance levels if they are to keep their form going.
"We’ve got great respect for Torino," Conte said. "They’re an excellent side and have good players.
"We know the derby is always a different type of game. I remember the year (1994-95) when we won the title but lost both games against Torino.
"We know we need to improve but there are also plenty of positives from our start to the season.
"It will be tough this year. Whoever we face will try and stop us from playing and make life difficult.
"The form book goes out of the window in derby games and we need to stay on our guard. Anything could happen."
Cont will definitely be without long-term absentees Simone Pepe and Martin Caceres, but had positive news over Mirko Vucinic's knee injury.
The Montenegrin returned from the recent international break with the knock, which it was feared could keep him out until the new year, but Conte revealed he could return for the Stadio Olimpico clash.
He added: "We've got one more training session remaining and we'll make our assessments on the players' condition.
"Vucinic has trained and his condition is improving."

REAL LACK QUALITY WITHOUT OZIL

Mesut Ozil's departure for Arsenal has left Real Madrid lacking quality, according to Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Germany international completed a deadline-day switch to the Premier League in a deal worth a reported €50million, with several Bernabeu stars expressing their surprise at the move.
Ozil's departure was offset by the world-record arrival of Gareth Bale, who is set for a home debut when Real meet city rivals Atletico on Saturday.
But Chelsea loanee Courtois is not convinced that the Welshman is good enough to replicate the creativity that Ozil gave to Carlo Ancelotti's side.
He told AS: "Without him, Madrid lack quality in the game.
"Ozil had tremendous vision in playing the final pass between the lines and opening up the game, although it is true that they have others."
Atletico had gone into derbies of recent years with a sense of dread, going 26 years without a win after a triumph in 1999.
However, that run was finally broken in May's Copa del Rey final as Diego Costa and Miranda struck to seal the trophy for Atletico and leave Real without silverware for the season.
"When I arrived at Atleti, all the talk was about the years we had not won a derby," he added.
"Then came the cup final win, and that relieved the pressure in the sense that we no longer speak about everything that went on before.
"Obviously there is pressure, but not as much. With Madrid, you not only want to win the three points but also to defeat a rival."

PARDEW BACKS DUO TO SHINE

Alan Pardew has backed young pair Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi to feature regularly in the Newcastle United first team.
The duo have enjoyed a handful of appearances for the club this season and combined effectively during the 2-0 League Cup win over Leeds United on Wednesday.
Pardew praised their performances against the Championship side and suggested more established first-team players could find their positions under threat as a result of their emergence.
"Those two left-footers balanced us up a bit," Pardew told The Shields Gazette.
"That's why they're pushing, because we haven't really got a natural left footer down that side - other than Sammy or Dummett. That's why they are important to us."
"What it does is put pressure on the players who are playing.
"I think one or two are under pressure on Monday night. What I've got is players in good form, and that's a good thing."
Pardew also stated his pleasure at seeing Papiss Cisse get on the scoresheet following a lengthy goal drought.
Cisse is yet to score in the Premier League this season but Pardew believes his goal on Wednesday will stand him in good stead.
"That was the ploy against Leeds – I wanted to see him get that goal, and he did," Pardew continued.
"He's struggled a little bit this season so far. He needed it (the goal).
"He'd been snatching at chances before then.
"It was just one of those chances that he needed to get good contact on, because it was a great cross. The goal for Papiss will hopefully put a smile back on his face."

HUGHTON CALLS FOR PATIENCE AHEAD OF STOKE ENCOUNTER

Norwich City managed Chris Hughton has called for patience at Carrow Road ahead of Sunday's clash with Stoke City.
Despite bringing in the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Nathan Redmond, Leroy Fer and Gary Hooper over the close-season, Hughton's men sit in 17th place with one Premier League win.
Norwich have scored just three times in five league games and needed extra time to see off Watford in the League Cup on Tuesday, but Hughton believes it is too early to panic.
"We would want to be better placed than where we are, but we also have to realise that we’re just five games into a new season and there are five teams who are only one point better off than we are," he told the club's official website.
"It’s not a time or stage to panic. You have to stay calm through this period, and have the belief and the belief in the abilities of the team.
"We’re very early in the season to be making judgements."
Norwich face a Stoke side who have made a reasonable start to life under Mark Hughes, sitting in 10th place.
Hughton believes the change in style implemented at the club has helped their campaign but feels Stoke will offer a similar threat to what they posed under former boss Tony Pulis.
"I think their style of play has changed. How dramatically? I don’t know. What Tony Pulis did in the seven years that he was there was magnificent," he continued.
"He got them promotion to the division and they’ve been a very stable and regular Premier League team.
"I think Mark has got different ideas, but the personnel in the team are the players that were there last season mainly."
Captain Sebastian Bassong is a doubt for the trip to the Britannia Stadium with a hamstring injury but Van Wolfswinkel looks set to feature for Norwich.

OBOABONA BLAMES AGENTS

Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona has lifted the lid on speculation that he was poised to join Barclays English Premier League club, Arsenal in the summer.
Several reports had claimed that the 23-year-old was poised to join the Gunners in the summer but the centre half has now exclusively told supersport.com that agents made up stories about the purported transfer.
“A lot of agents out there want Oboabona Godfrey as their player. I would not run after an agent that is close to a club like, say, Real Madrid just because it’s a big club,. Those (stories that I was on my way to Arsenal) were stories of agents and I don’t know anything about that,” he told supersport.com.
Oboabona, who has already been capped 27 times at international level with Nigeria, is however not having much joy at Turkish Super Lig club, Rizespor following his switch from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Sunshine Stars in the summer.
He has yet to play a single minute for Rizespor in the 2013/14 Super Lig season which is already five weeks old.
“So far I have played two games for the club and even scored in one of the test matches.
“ I did not do pre-season with the club and the manager (Riza Calimbay) is trying to see my potentials before he throws me in but so far they have been very professional in the way they treat me,” he said.
Rizespor will face Galatasaray in the Super Lig on Saturday but it appears highly unlikely that the Nigerian will make his league debut against the star-studded Cimbom at the Türk Telekom Arena.

EVUMENA STANDS BY FALCONS

Delta Queens coach, Dan Evumena has stoutly stood behind the Super Falcons despite their failure to undo the Japanese side, Nadeshiko in the two-match friendly game in Japan.
The Nigerians fell to the Asian giants 0-2 in the second match decided at the Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba, Japan on Thursday.
Two first half goals off the foot of Aya Miyama and Mizuho Sakaguchi in the 21st and 28th minutes decided the game in favour of the reigning world champions who had on Sunday defeated the six-time African champions with same score line.
Although the Nigerians found the opponents back net in the 57th minute but it did not count as it was considered to be an offside.
Evumena said the Super Falcons are undergoing a rebuilding process insisting that it is simply uncharitable for anyone to have expected the hurriedly assembled side to defeat the world champions.
“I’m not disappointed by the outcome of the two-match friendly against Japan, right from the word go the issue is not going to Japan to win but a germane process of rebuilding the side.
“The 0-2 score line is not disgraceful, the fact that the Super Falcons lost the two matches on same goal margin is not enough to write off the team.
“I know they must have worked very hard to force the score line to 0-2 against reigning world champions, that doesn’t paint bad performance by my candid assessment,” said the former Super Falcons assistant coach to supersport.com.
Evumena said it will be a great disservice to the game for the football house to use the game as criteria for the appointment of a substantive coach for the side.
“It will be wrong for the NFF to judge the coach and players on the basis of the two-match friendly against Japan. The present crop of Falcons’ players is entirely new.
“The Japan friendly shouldn’t be a yardstick for the appointment of a head coach for the Super Falcons as much as I commend the NFF for their boldness in accepting the challenge.
“If we believe in the rebuilding process the NFF can further arrange more local friendly matches for the side.
“Coach Edwin Okon is just a caretaker coach, allow him time to play more friendly games with a marching order to open the door further for more players, I know with time the side will get it right,” said the former Falconets coach.

OGHENEKARO ETEBO SCORES A HAT-TRICK AGAINST WIKKI TOURIST

Oghenekaro Etebo scored a hat-trick for Warri Wolves as they beat Wikki Tourists 3-1 in a Week 34 game of the Glo Premier League played at the Warri City Stadium.
The home-based Super Eagle opened scoring for Wolves in the seventh minute of the game, but the celebrations had yet to die down when Waziri Christopher equalized for Wikki.

Etebo struck again in the 12th minute to restore Wolves' lead, and he completed his hat-trick in the 29th minute, after the hosts were awarded a spot kick.
Etebo is now the second highest goal scorer in the Glo Premier League with 15 goals, just a goal short of Nasarawa United's Victor Namo who leads with 16 goals.
Warri Wolves are placed sixth on the League table with, 49 points from 33 games as they have a game in hand against Kwara United.
Wikki have slipped to the bottom of the League table with 42 points from 34 games.

GAIYA CONDEMNS ABUJA STADIUM

Godfrey Gaiya has criticized the cost and the quality of the recently re-grassed pitch of the Abuja National Stadium.

The chairman of the House Committee on Sports told newsmen on Wednesday that he was disappointed at the level of work carried out, singling the lack of drainage on the pitch for criticism.

"The re-grassing is just an aspect of the renovation and they said today that it cost them N96.6 million to do, my verdict is that I am not comfortable with the level of water logged on the pitch," Gaiya said.
The lawmaker compared the re-grassed pitch in Abuja with that of U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, and concluded that the latter is of a better quality in spite of the fact it is located in the tropics.
"I was in Calabar and it rained for three days non-stop before the match and you cannot compare Calabar that is in tropical environment to Abuja that is in the Savannah where rain is lighter.
"So, if it rained in Calabar for three days when Nigeria played Malawi and I never saw anything like waterlogged spot, why should ordinary drizzling cause water ponds on the renovated Abuja pitch," Gaiya queried.

EYIMBA AWARDED 3 POINTS, 3SC PENALIZED

Enyimba have been awarded 3 points and 3 goals from their abandoned match against title rivals Kano Pillars.

The NFF's Organising and Disciplinary Committee ruled on Thursday night that fans of Kano Pillars encroached on the pitch, causing the game to be abandoned.

Additionally, Pillars were fined N2 million and ordered to play the remainder of the season at Lokoja, nearly 600 km away.
They were also ordered to replace Enyimba's video camera damaged during the melee.
The points take Enyimba a decisive three points clear of Bayelsa at the top, and significantly damage Pillars' own ambitions.
At the other end of the table, 3SC were penalized for failing to continue their game at Sunshine Stars, with the Akure side awarded all 3 points and 3 goals.
Shooting Stars striker Gbolahan Salami was fined N100 000 and banned for the last four matches of the season for inciting fans, while recently removed Oyo state Sports Commissioner Dapo-Lam Adesina was handed a one-year ban from all football activities for instigating the 3SC walk-out.
Sunshine did not get off scot-free. They were fined N350 000 for disrupting the Ibadan club's video recording of the game.
The Committee however ruled that the abandoned game between Kwara United and Warri Wolves be replayed, and fined both clubs.
Kwara were handed a N5 million fine for ineffective security, while Wolves are to pay N3million for refusing to continue the game after security was restored.
In its preliminary ruling on all three games, the League Management Company had ordered replays at neutral venues for both the Kano Pillars/Enyimba and Kwara United/Warri Wolves games, while awarding Sunshine Stars the points for 3SC's walk-out.
