Bendtner is set to take his place in Arsenal's line up for their English League Cup date with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, and, according to Wenger, the Denmark international can have a real influence on the London side's outfit.
The 25-year-old Dane has not appeared in the Arsenal first team for over two years, having spent time on loan at Sunderland and Juventus, while his last goal for the London-based club was one that earned him an FA Cup hat-trick against Leyton Orient in March 2011.
"He has shown a good attitude in training and good, hard work. The real response that he can show is on Wednesday night," Wenger said.
"He had nearly gone somewhere else and in the end he stayed because it didn't work out and we needed him here. Now he can convince everybody.
"We are open minded, we believe in his qualities. I personally believe in his qualities.
"It's just down to attitude and fighting spirit. When he has that, Nicklas can be an unstoppable striker. He gets his chance. Our job is about that. Take your chance.
"Fans forgive you everything as long as you produce the performances on the football pitch. That's what people want.
"I think our fans have a positive attitude towards Bendtner and they will be behind him.
"Only you can create that with your performances."
Wenger is hopeful Bendtner can emulate first-choice centre forward Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman earning a rest for the Cup trip to the Hawthorns.
"I see him (Bendtner) as a centre-forward. He can use his body back to goal. He's an intelligent player, he can play intelligent passes and protect," Wenger said.
"He's a similar type, size-wise, to Olivier Giroud. The central role is perfect for him."
Other first-choice Arsenal players to be missing alongside Giroud
include the injured sextet of Santi Cazorla (ankle), Theo Walcott
(stomach), Lukas Podolski (hamstring), Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) and Abou Diaby (knee).
