BUNDESLIGA IS THE BEST SAYS RIBERY

Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery believes the Bundesliga could be the best league in world football.

Ribery - one of three players battling it out for the 2013 Ballon d'Or, awarded to world's best player of the year - has been blown away by the rate of development in Germany's top-flight in recent years.

Bayern, who are trying to defend their Champions League and Bundesliga crowns this term, face stern competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in domestic football.

And France winger Ribery, who joined the Bavarians from Marseille in 2007, was quoted as saying by Kicker: "The Bundesliga's level has developed incredibly in the past few years.

"The Bundesliga is undoubtedly one of the best leagues in the world and is perhaps even the very best.

"Just look at Eintracht Frankfurt's Europa League win over Bordeaux the other day. They are the number 16 (side) in the Bundesliga.

"This only shows that the Bundesliga teams are very strong compared to other leagues. The Bundesliga are the dominant league in Europe at the moment."

The most entertaining league in the world- EPL, comes with sacrifices no doubt. Sleepless nights for managers owing to passionate and dissillusioned fans, impatience and greed of wealthy owners who love wielding the sack Axe for fun is a common occurrence. In summary, it is a results oriented league. Pedigree, history and past glory fade like the summer breeze... Casualties have been recorded already but the big boys are by far under high powered scrutiny
Let us wait and see what happens next...

SEVILLA PRESIDENT STEPS DOWN

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has resigned from his role after being sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption.

The 56-year-old was sentenced by the Supreme Court in Madrid at a hearing last Thursday following accusations that he, along with former mayor Julian Munoz, diverted money out of the municipality of Marbella's public accounts during his employment as a lawyer between 1999 and 2003.

Del Nido had been in charge at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for 11 years, having first joined the board of directors in 1986, with former vice president Jose Castro to take the reins on an interim basis until a board meeting determines a full-time successor next week.

COLOMBIA PRIMERA WRAP UP

Atletico Nacional's brilliant form in the Colombia Primera A Clausura semi-finals continued on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Santa Fe.

Juan Osorio's men finished the six-match group phase unbeaten, and brought up their fifth win - and fourth in succession - with the home result.

Jhon Valoy put Nacional ahead just prior to half-time, before Rodin Quinones made things more comfortable with a second goal with 10 minutes to play.

Luis Arias' 89th-minute penalty for Santa Fe made for a nervous finish, but Nacional held on to move into the finals in fine form.

Junior finished second to the group winners after dispatching of Itagui 4-1 to move to 10 points.

Luis Ruiz scored all four goals for Junior, who snapped a two-match losing streak.

In a game of many twists and turns, Yessi Mena opened the scoring in the fourth minute as Itagui threatened a boil over.

Ruiz wrapped up his hat-trick in the 23rd minute, taking just 12 minutes to go from zero goals to three in a blistering display for the home side.

However, Itagui's hopes of a comeback were boosted by a red card to Junior's Michael Ortega just prior to the break.

But they blew their chances with the man advantage when John Restrepo was dismissed for the visitors, and coincidentally Itagui finished with fewer men when Javier Lopez was also sent off.

Ruiz scored his fourth in the 90th minute, capping a brilliant individual display.

Finalists Deportivo Cali's perfect Group B campaign was blotched, as they fell to Deportivo Pasto 3-2 on the road.

Cali led on five minutes courtesy of a Victor Giraldo penalty, but Pasto immediately took the ascendancy - with three goals in 18 minutes putting the group leaders to the sword.

A late goal back from Steven Mendoza from the spot gave Pasto some nervous moments, as the hosts were also down to 10 after Eder Ruales was sent off on 79 minutes.

Once Caldas dropped to third in the group, level with bottom-placed Millonarios on six points, after the latter beat the former 3-1.

Caldas led on 27 minutes at Millonarios, but a sterling late show from the home side saw them to a two-goal victory.

A Dayro Moreno brace in six minutes quickly turned the tide, before Jonathan Agudelo sealed the three points for Millonarios - who snapped a three-match losing run.

LIGUE 1 WRAP UP

Monaco moved back to within two points of Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain courtesy of a 1-0 victory over 10-man Ajaccio on Sunday.

Claudio Ranieri's side moved above Lille in the table after Emmanuel Riviere struck his eighth goal of the season.

The striker pounced with 15 minutes remaining to ensure Monaco capitalised on the sending off of Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi and claimed a fourth straight win.

Vincent Enyeama's bid to break the record for consecutive minutes without conceding in Ligue 1 came to an end as Lille suffered a first defeat in 12, losing 1-0 at Bordeaux

That record stood at 1,176 minutes, but the Nigerian goalkeeper's run came to a halt at 1,062 when Landry N'Guemo scored with the aid of a deflection in the first half.

Even the dismissal of Bordeaux defender Maxime Poundje after 58 minutes was not enough to bring Lille back into the game.

Lyon got back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bastia.

Florian Raspentino gave Bastia the lead in the 34th minute, but second-half goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Yassine Benzia and Bafetimbi Gomis earned all three points for Lyon.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Montpellier's winless run was stretched to eight league games with a 1-1 draw against Toulouse.

Souleymane Camara was on target for the 2011-12 champions, while Abel Aguilar levelled after both sides had been reduced to 10 men in the second half.

CLASS OF 92 MOVIE PREMIER

Manchester United legends hit the red carpet on Sunday night for the premiere of the new Class of '92 documentary.

Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and Gary Neville were present along with Phil Neville, who was not a part of the unforgettable FA Youth Cup winning side 21 years ago.

The younger Neville was involved in the 1993 final defeat to Leeds but skippered United to Youth Cup glory in 1995 - the same year he made his first-team debut.

Both he and Ryan Giggs had earlier watched on from the sidelines as United drew 2-2 at Tottenham, while Gary Neville had earlier commentated on Chelsea's 4:10pm kick-off with Southampton.

Beckham said he expects his mother to cry when she watches a film about his time at Manchester United.

The former England captain contributed to the feature-length documentary, which focuses on the Old Trafford side's emergence into the first-team up until their 1999 Treble triumph.

EL CHOLO- THE UNSUNG HERO

Diego Simeone has proved he is worth his own kettle of fish. Successes in the Europa cup, Copa Del Rey and level with Barcelona on 40 points this season. Yet he has been largely ignored by FIFA. El Cholo is the best in Spain at the moment.
