In a battle between two of the competition's top teams on Sunday, the Red Bulls came from behind to draw 1-1 against the Seattle Sounders.
Brad Evans had given the Sounders the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, but Australia international Tim Cahill levelled on 76 minutes.
Seattle won a penalty just before half-time when an Evans cross struck the arm of Swedish defender Markus Holgersson.
Evans stepped up to take the spot-kick, powerfully placing the penalty into the bottom corner and giving Luis Robles no chance.
Cahill equalised for the Red Bulls with a fine goal, curling his finish into the corner to earn his side a point.
The draw saw Seattle slip from top spot in the Western Conference as Real Salt Lake edged the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0.
