Lionel Messi has insisted that he has
fully recovered from the hamstring
injury that hampered him last season.
The Barcelona star missed the second
leg of their humiliating UEFA Champions
League semi-final defeat to Bayern
Munich after sustaining the problem in
the quarter-finals against Paris Saint-
Germain.
Messi, though, was able to return to help Barca equal Real Madrid's La Liga points
record as they secured their 22nd Spanish title.
The Argentina international featured in Barcelona's 2-0 friendly defeat to Bayern on
Wednesday and is confident that his injury worries are behind him.
"Luckily, my injury is a thing of the past. I’ve completely recovered. I’m very eager to
start the season," he told the club's official website.
Barcelona's preparations for the new season have been disrupted by the departure of
Tito Vilanova, who stepped down last Friday after it was revealed that he needed
further treatment to help aid his recovery from cancer.
Vilanova has since been replaced by former Newell's Old Boys manager Gerardo
Martino. Messi is hopeful that the strength of the squad will ease Barca through the
transition.
"We're very sorry for what has happened but the team is strong. We have to keep on
moving forward," he added.
