Remi Garde believes his Lyon team have
set a benchmark for the new season
following a strong showing against Real
Madrid.
Garde's men continued their pre-season
preparation with a 2-2 draw against the
Spanish side on Wednesday, taking the
lead through a spectacular volley from
midfielder Clement Grenier before
Lisandro Lopez doubled the advantage.
Real fought back through a penalty from Alvaro Morata and a headed effort from
Casemiro.
Lyon fell short in their quest for the Ligue 1 title last season despite initial early
promise.
The Stade de Gerland outfit finished 16 points behind champions Paris Saint-Germain
but still secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Lyon will compete in four competitions next season, and Garde feels his players are
ready to meet the challenges ahead.
"This match against Real has given us a benchmark and will help us to be prepared,"
he told L'Equipe.
