Manchester City hope that manager Manuel Pellegrini will be back to take charge of
Wednesday’s Barclays Asia Trophy game against South China after attending his mother’s
funeral in Chile.
Pellegrini had to leave the club’s training base in Durban at short notice last week to fly back
to Santiago but is expected to rejoin the squad in Hong Kong on Tuesday and oversee an
training session in the evening.
The 59-year-old attended his mother Silvia’s funeral on Monday just three months after his
father also passed away, and City captain Vincent Kompany admits that it is important for the
club to rally around the new manager who only arrived in England at the end of last month.
