Following Manchester United’s failed bid of £28million for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, the Mirror reports that David Moyes will return with an improved offer of £35million in the coming days.
The deal will rate the Belgian midfielder at £20million and the England full-back at £15milion, with the story claiming Moyes knows his former club need to sell before they can buy. That may be the case, but do they need to buy if they don’t sell?
Either way, it seems this story has some way still to run.
With United so far being blocked in their pursuit of a new left-back, the Express has reported that Southampton’s Luke Shaw is being considered as a potential alternative.
The 18-year-old only recently signed a new five-year-contract with the Saints, and the £10million offer being suggested would surely be treated with the same disdain by Mauricio Pochettino as United’s earlier offer for the Everton pair was treated by Roberto Martinez.
The same paper reports that Chelsea are preparing a third bid for Wayne Rooney. While previous, unproven, stories claimed the Blues would offer in the region of £40million for the England striker, the reality was always going to be a significantly lower offer.
The Express claims that will be close to £28million and should United turn that down it will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho returns with a better deal or moves on to his plan B.
