Enyimba goalkeeper, Femi Thomas has told Goal that the team will win the double this season.
Thomas said the former African champions will take home the League and Federation Cup trophies at the end of the season.
Enyimba
are sixth on the log with 39 points and will take on Lobi Stars in the
semi finals of the Federation Cup in Benin, next Wednesday.
The
former Akwa United first choice goalie hinges his confidence on the new
found form of the People’s Elephants in recent weeks and the active
support of the management.
“We are gunning for a double and it is possible that we are going to win the Premier League trophy and the Federation Cup.
“I
am saying this because we now play well and the confidence is back
after some weeks of not doing well in the League. When you watch us play
now, you will notice that the old Enyimba is back.
“We
have a very stingy defence that is not ready to concede goals and our
attackers also score goals. The fact that we are in sixth position on
the table is not a problem.
“When
the right time comes, Enyimba will move to the top of the League table
and at that point, no team will be able to stop us. We are also going to
give our best in the semi final game against Lobi Stars.
“We
are poised to return Enyimba to its glory days and the management are
motivating us in every way possible. I am not saying it will be easy,
but I am very sure of the qualities we have in the team,” Femi said.
He revealed that the players have resolved not to lose their heads as the season gets tougher.
“There
is an agreement between all the players that we must write our names in
gold and not to lose our heads towards the end of the season.
“I
believe in the players, the coaches are doing well and the management
is proactive. Enyimba is meant for the top this season.”
