WALCOTT CONFIDENT OF RETURN

The last time we saw Theo Walcott he was sitting up on a stretcher with a large grin and two fingers in the air.

He had no idea he had just suffered a knee injury serious enough to rule him out of this summer’s World Cup. It would be two more days before he was made aware of that. No, he was far too busy responding to Tottenham  supporters peppering him with coins, rejoicing in the fact that Arsenal were leading the FA Cup tie by two goals to nil.

He says he has ‘no regrets’ about a gesture that invited a fair amount of criticism last month. Provocative? He would say no. He would say it was nothing more than ‘banter’, even if he does make the point that the missiles were flying before he reminded his  tormentors of the score.

Expecting: Walcott's wife Melanie Slade is pregnant, and the prospect is helping him get through the pain.
