South Africa missed an opportunity to all-but guarantee their place in the Africa Cup of Nations as they held were to a 0-0 draw by Congo
Shakes Mashaba's men remain in charge at the top of Group A with eight points, but victory would have effectively secured their passage after Nigeria's 3-1 win over Sudan.
South Africa looked the more likely to secure all three points, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by at both ends and ultimately the top two in the group could not be separated, so Congo stay a point behind Mashaba's side.
The hosts appeared to be in a determined mood right from the start as they took control of proceedings, giving Congo little respite from defending.
They struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities, though, with goalkeeper Chancel Massa having little to do in the first half, while Senzo Meyiwa in the home side's net produced a fine save to deny Delvin Ndinga in the 35th minute.
The South Africa keeper starred in their 2-0 win in Congo on Saturday and he kept his side level going into the break.
As was the case in the first period, both sides had trouble breaking their opponents down after the interval, with the hosts' best chance seeing Kermit Erasmus flash a shot wide from 18 yards in the 83rd minute.
