Rafiu Ladipo, the President-General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, has revealed that the group will need N800-million to foot the travel expenses of at least 800 of its members to Brazil where they are expected to cheer the Super Eagles at the World Cu
Ladipo revealed that members of the group personally sponsored their trip to South Africa were they cheered the cheered the national team at the African Nations Championship (Chan), and pleaded with the government as well as well-meaning Nigerians and corporations to come to the financial aid of the club.
"The Supporters Club will need a minimum of between N800, 000 and N1 million per person to go to Brazil. This will include the air fee, accommodation and match tickets," Ladipo told SportingLife.
"We are expecting at least 300 supporters from Nigeria while at least 500 will come from other parts of the world to join us in Brazil for the World Cup. So the Supporters Club is looking for nothing less than N800 million to be able to prosecute this World Cup."
Ladipo went on to defend Globacom, the club's official sponsor by revealing that by the nature of their contract with the telecommunications giants, it would be unrealistic to expect the company to solely fund the club's trip to Brazil.
"We have an agreement with Globacom, our major sponsor for a particular amount to be paid to us at the beginning of the year, for the whole year. If that money falls short of our expenses we have to look for money to be able to do whatever we want to do," he revealed.
He therefore called on the Government to come to the aid of the association which has for many years loyally supported the various Nigerian national teams, stating that the activities of the club should be considered as a national project.
