STEVIE G IN AN EVERTON KIT?

His blood may run the deepest shade of red, but this was the day young Steven Gerrard got his hands on the Championship trophy and made his Liverpool-loving parents feel oh, so blue.

After winning a competition in 1987, Gerrard’s uncle Leslie took Stevie - then seven - to Goodison Park to have his photo taken with the trophy and the Charity Shield. Leslie even bought his nephew a new Everton kit for the photo shoot.

‘Dad went ballistic,’ said Gerrard. ‘Disowning me must have crossed his mind.’

Now, 27 years on, Gerrard may be only a couple of weeks from getting his hands back on the silverware.

The Liverpool skipper looked relaxed in training ahead of the Sunday's potential title decider against Chelsea.

Manager Brendan Rodgers put his side through their paces, but also had time to share a joke with his captain.
