Coleman hopeful on Ramsey injury

Wales manager Chris Coleman is hopeful Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be fit for his club's Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Ramsey was forced off in injury time during Wales' 2-1 Euro 2016 qualifying win in Andorra on Tuesday after picking up an ankle injury.

Gareth Bale spared Wales' blushes in the principality, with the Real Madrid star scoring twice - including a superb 25-yard free-kick nine minutes from time - after Ildefons Lima had given Andorra a shock early lead from the penalty spot.

The game was played on an artificial pitch, and the surface drew the ire of both Coleman and Bale after the match.

Ramsey's problem was caused by a knock rather than anything to do with the pitch, but the 23-year-old is facing a race against time to be ready for Arsenal's home game against Premier League champions City on Saturday.

"He got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle," Coleman explained.

"It was coming to the end of the game and it was pointless taking a risk with him.

"Hopefully he'll be okay for Arsenal at the weekend, but we'll have to see what the next 24 to 48 hours hold."

Owen backs Welbeck to shine

Former England striker Michael Owen has tipped Danny Welbeck to shine at his new club Arsenal.

Welbeck completed his move to the Emirates Stadium from Manchester United on transfer deadline day last week for a reported fee of around £16million.

The Manchester-born 23-year-old is a graduate of United's youth system, but struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford after making his debut in September 2008.

Welbeck was England's match-winner in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier on Monday, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win in Switzerland after starting in his favoured centre-forward position.

Captain Neymar satisfied with victories

Neymar has declared himself satisfied with back-to-back victories in his first two matches as Brazil captain.

The Barcelona forward was named as new coach Dunga's skipper in the absence of the armband's regular custodian Thiago Silva, and led the team to 1-0 friendly victories over both Colombia and Ecuador in the United States.

It is as yet unclear how long Neymar will remain as captain, but a goal and an assist across the two fixtures will have done his chances of winning the role on a permanent basis no harm.

"I'm still a young leader, I'm one of the younger players here," he said. "But I'm really happy.

"Those four years [in the national team] I have been learning so much things, since the first game until today. And now I help as I can when we have new players to make them feel comfortable.

"I think the results here were good, and it was very positive because we had two difficult games and we have won both. That's why we're happy."

Next up for Brazil is a friendly against Argentina in China on October 11.

Canada 3 Jamaica 1: Hosts end winless drought

Canada ended a winless drought that lasted almost two years, as they defeated Jamaica 3-1 in a friendly in Toronto on Tuesday.

The BMO Field hosts came from behind to win for the first time since October 2012, with their streak without success ended at 16 games.

Jamaica, meanwhile, have gone five matches without a win.

The two nations traded fine goals a minute apart in the first half, Kemar Lawrence's free-kick for Jamaica on the half-hour mark cancelled out almost instantaneously by a David Edgar volley from a corner.

Another brilliant free-kick, this time from Canada's Marcel de Jong, put Benito Floro's men ahead for the first time before Tosaint Ricketts tapped in the sealer in the 72nd minute.

It was a much-needed win for Spanish tactician Floro, who was appointed Canada's head coach in July 2013.

Earlier, both sides threatened to open the scoring - but at the wrong end - with centre-back Edgar avoiding the concession of an own goal by the woodwork in the 10th minute.

Jamaican captain Wes Morgan then got a touch on Doneil Henry's cross in for Canada, but fortunately for the visitors, it deflected wide of the target.

Canada's Ghana-born forward Randy Edwini-Bonsu then had two chances minutes apart, but neither of his shots were close to the target, and Jamaica made the hosts pay.

Lawrence curled his free-kick over the Canadian wall and into the top right corner of Milan Borjan's net for a stunning opener.

The response from the North American nation was strong, though, with Edgar's brilliantly taken volley from Patrice Bernier's corner equalising.

Jamaican substitute Jamar Loza, who came on at half-time for Jermaine Anderson, was causing trouble for the Canadian defence, and almost broke through just prior to the hour-mark.

Loza fired low at Borjan, who parried wide of the target before collecting to clear the danger.

Canada were the more clinical side when it mattered, as De Jong's effort from the dead ball putting the hosts within reach of a drought-breaking win.

And when Ricketts tapped into an empty net four minutes later, the result was virtually sealed - with Jamaican goalkeeper Andre Blake fumbling a routine save, allowing the Hapoel Haifa man in to score.

Dzeko confident of downing Arsenal

Edin Dzeko has highlighted Arsenal as a challenger for the Premier League title but is confident Manchester City can win Saturday's clash.

Champions City head to the Emirates Stadium this weekend looking for a swift response to a shock 1-0 home reverse to Stoke City before the international break.

Dzeko is well aware of the threat that Arsene Wenger's men possess, but the Bosnia-Herzegovina striker thinks City can claim three points in north London.

"It will be difficult, but I'm an optimist," Dzeko told City's official website.

Cristian Ansaldi insists Atletico Madrid will not change their style amid criticism surrounding their combative approach to the game.

The Argentina international joined the Spanish champions on a season-long loan from Zenit in August and made his debut as a substitute in the opening leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Real Madrid, which finished 1-1.

Atletico went on to win the trophy after a 1-0 success in the second leg and Ansaldi is unconcerned by their style of play under Diego Simeone.

"We will continue playing our game," he said.

"Many people are bothered by the way we play, but that makes us more excited.

"If something is bothering them, we will keeping playing the same way."

Atletico will now take on fierce city rivals Real in La Liga on Saturday and the 27-year-old is wary that the league clash will represent an altogether different test.
